The Art of Somali Vocal Melodies

My musical journey began in Ethiopia in August 2006. In December of the same year, I took part in a celebration for Eid al-Adha. It was the first time I ever stepped onto a stage.

That night, I performed my first two songs, “Qasdi” and “Sheekadii Doraad,” with lyrics written by Abwaan Abdullahi Gurey, my artistic mentor who encouraged me to pursue music.

That night marked the beginning of my musical journey.

Filmed in collaboration with renowned ethnomusicologists, it offers an unprecedented look at the preservation and evolution of heritage melodies for a new generation.
